VERDI THEATRE
Cats, one of the greatest theatrical successes of all times for spectators, plays number and collections, wins the challenge and by popular demand it comes back on stage also in Italy during 2010/2011 season. Cats from the book of T.S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” is not only a translation but a reinterpretation of the historical musical.
Directed by Saverio Marconi, in collaboration with Daniel Ezralow, is the story of 25 naughty, delicious, elegant, magical, sensual cats who meet together to know who will have the privilege of going straight to the “Sweet Hereafter” to be reborn to new life. This time the cats have also invited humans to the party, to let them know how special animals they are and their unique vision of the world. “Memory” the most famous song from the musical was written by Trevor Nunn inspired by Eliot’s poem “Rhapsody on a windy night”, and was recorded by 150 different artists, including Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion. The show, represented in about 26 countries and 250 cities worldwide, has already been translated into 10 languages: Japanese, German, Hungarian, Norwegian, Finnish, Dutch, Swedish, French, Spanish. This musical sees the young actors of the Compagnia della Rancia, the first theater company in the production of musicals in Italy, which in recent years has been so successful in increasing public and critics, as well as award-winning.
